Stayed there during a storm warning so some of the comments need to take that in mind. The property is quite charming and above the Castle Pub which is where you'll find the check in desk and staff working the bar, and the restaurant as well. The room was spacious although a little cold when we arrived, but the radiator was easily turned on and there was a spare oil heater as well - after our evening meal the room was nicely warm. This next bit almost comes into the what did you expect a hotel set in a valley amongst the high hills of the Peak District in a storm with a Met Office Storm warning to be like. There was little insulation against the noise from the storm, the front facing windows were firm but even as we tried to sleep this was the noisiest storm not just with howling winds but deep roars for extra measure. In other words if you are used to a quiet sleep and you find yourself here in a storm - you might bring earplugs. The hotel is slightly more expensive than you might expect but all other hotels are in the same price bracket, but the small town itself is beautiful and a great base for exploring.

Fabulous location and the service was excellent. For some reason our dogs were not on the reservation that we made online but that didn’t stop them. They made it work and we are grateful. The hotel is as you would expect, a lovely old building and the room was more than adequate. We had a great stay and would come back - Thank you.

Great hotel, family room was very generous and really well set up for the kiddies. Cleaner came during the day and laid out some extra biscuits for our daughter

Only stayed one night but, bed was comfy, our room clean, tidy and well maintained food in the resturant was good standard too. Every member of staff we dealt with in the hotel from check in, bar and restaurant were excellent. Helpful, friendly and great at their jobs, a credit to the firm.

Rooms were a little tired, but very warm and comfortable. Our bed was huge, would of slept four adults. Nice to actually have a bath and not just the standard shower. Room was cleaned and bed made every day. The pub itself had a very comfortable atmosphere to it. The food was of a very good standard and competitively priced. Good selection of drinks available. Wonderful location, within walking distance of shops, restaraunts, the caves and the castle. On site parking was a bonus. Would definitely return.

The staff were exceptionally friendly and welcoming, with particular praise for the person in charge of breakfast. . The hotel could benefit from some maintenance and attention to cleanliness. Specific issues included mould in the bathroom, a leak from the skylight, and visible cobwebs and dust behind the door. These details detracted from the overall experience. Additionally, while the breakfast service was warm and hospitable, the quality of the food itself could be improved to match the standard of service.

We stayed at The Castle for my partner’s birthday weekend while visiting Speedwell Cavern, and it was great from start to finish. After booking, I enquired about their birthday packages, and they were quick to respond, confirming they offer them at no extra cost. When we arrived, the room was decorated with balloons, a banner, and a birthday card. It was such a nice touch. Our room also had a lovely view of the castle, which was an added bonus. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. Sophie and Molly were especially polite and accommodating, always making sure we had everything we needed. The food was delicious, and everything went smoothly from check-in to check-out. We had a fantastic time and will definitely be back.
